There was lots of creative writing this week and a huge increase in students wanting to share their journals to the class. We continued to practice with synonyms and antonyms, and learned the meanings of different prefixes and suffixes. Students also learned about metaphors and continued to practice with similes. They were given an overall review of what we have learned to date and did a great job! First and second level students practiced place value, rounding, and dynamic addition. Third graders learned how to classify triangles by their sides and learned about the different types of angles.
Students did a fantastic job with the Kindness Challenge this week!
In our community meeting, students gave great advice to peers with regards to handling issues with friends, and many were recognized for their exceptional acts of kindness.
The highlight of the week was our focus on Chemistry.

It was very exciting to see the students element projects. They did a wonderful job! We saw lots of creativity at play--poems, songs, models, posters, dioramas, and experiments.
They all did an excellent job presenting their work as well.
We learned all about the Periodic Table of Elements, how it is organized into periods and groups, as well as what atoms are made of and the parts of an atom. Students learned how to determine the number of protons, neutrons, and electrons and had lots of fun constructing atoms on Friday. Be sure to check out the Moments page for more snapshots of all the wonderful things the students are doing! I enjoyed meeting with many of you this week and look forward to meeting with the rest of you next week!
Have a great weekend.
